If so, the port is I can not access the DVR from the computer, I can access the menu from its monitor. On your router net gear DHCP will more than likely be enabled with a range of addresses to be used, the DVR should be given an address outside that range so that it doesn’t result in an ip conflict. You will have 2 networks on the router, 1private and 1public, you are only interested in the private network I think your DVR might use a default port of but first make sure it’s on the same network. Once this is working then you can move on to setting up the router to forward the port used by DVR that will give you remote access. In my experience dvr setup is sometimes very confusing especially once you get to remote viewing.

Mar 23, I’ve setup a home network using Netgear N wireless router using Windows 7. I’m trying to get one of my hard drives to be available on the network, so I went to the “sharing” tab of the HD’s properties setting and allowed sharing on the HD and turned off password protection so that you don’t need a password to access the HD. I also set the permissions to give full control, change, and read access to the “Everyone” group.

From another computer in the network, I tried connecting to the network HD but ultimately got “Access denied” despite the fact that I gave full control to “Everyone”. How do I get the computer to be able to connect to the shared HD? In other words can I establish a wireless bridge with the router that the local internet company provided? This is ADSL and works perfectly.

This is a bit curious but apparently it works for some users, suggesting there could be an issue with discovery or resolving DNS on some Yosemite Macs. Note that if you reboot the Mac with this one, you will have to repeat the above steps to unload and reload discoveryd into launchd. If none of the above works, there could be other problems. Sometimes starting fresh with a clean install could resolve them, or if you believe the problem to be a bug and you had a trouble free experience in prior versions of Mac OS, you could always downgrade from OS X Yosemite to Mavericks again until an update to Yosemite arrives to resolve the issue once and for all.

This was purchased yesterday and was used to replace my old Trendnet G The trendnet however is one of three routers in my configuration. I run a mostly wired confirguration but my old house has not been wired properly for CATx cable. As a consequence, I would sometimes extend a wired connection with another router while at the same time configuring that router for occasional wireless access.

Connect your modem to the internet port of the NETGEAR router and your computer to any of the four LAN ports. Switch the computer, router, and broadband/cable modem, off and on again. Wait for them all to finish booting up.

The WNR out of the box is not capable of doing what you want in the way that you want to do it. It cannot receive one wireless connection and then pass that connection on via wireless or Ethernet. The firmware as stands does not allow for the wireless component of the router to be set to receive a connection like a wireless NIC in a computer can. As I touched on, a wireless repeater requires two things to be able to function in this capacity.

Standard routers are neither designed to function in this capacity, nor are they designed to be modified to operate in this capacity. I am not detailing all of the steps you would follow, because at this point you would be far better off moving to the DD-WRT site to bone up on everything you need to know to be able to replace your firmware, and the dangers involved therein.

In short, it can be done, but you’ve got some work ahead of you. Providing, of course, the exact model and version of that Netgear Router is compatible with the proper version of DD-WRT for what you want to do.
